Gorbechev was the last dicator of the Soviet Union. He led the USSR from 1985 to 1991. He was liked by western democracies because of his western thoughts of openess and forgivness. These plans were called glasnost and perestroika. He formed good relationships with Ronald Reagan of the US, Margaret Thatcher of Britian, and Helmet Kohl of West Germany. He made plans and meetings with other leaders to lower the amount of nuclear weapons.
Primary Source: The following quote was made by Mikhail Gorbechev on his governmental policy. "More socialism means more democracy, openness and collectivism in everyday life." This is a very strange quote for a Soviet dictator because they openly say that they agree with Democracy, openess, and collectivism when usually Communists hate these principles. Gorbechev demonstrated these through his glasnost and perestroika plans. This led to the downfall of the Soviet Union.
